Sheriff's Sales · All 21 New Jersey Counties

Find your sheriff's sale, county by county.

New Jersey foreclosure law is statewide. The auction is not. Every county sheriff runs sales on its own schedule, in its own building, with its own deadline for postponing. Here is where to look up your sale, in every county in the state.

Why the county matters more than you'd think

Two homeowners in identical situations, one in Newark and one in Freehold, are working against completely different clocks. Monmouth requires your adjournment letter by the Friday before a Monday sale. Essex takes requests until noon on the day of sale. Passaic and Sussex take them until 2:00 p.m. that day. Morris has an online form. Union makes you come in person, with ID. Bergen, Hudson and Middlesex don't publish a cutoff at all — you have to call and ask.

Sale schedules differ just as much. Bergen sells Fridays, Morris Thursdays, Essex and Passaic Tuesdays, Union and Middlesex on alternating Wednesdays, Monmouth on alternating Mondays — and Sussex just once a month, on the first Wednesday.

None of this changes what you're entitled to under state law — two adjournments of up to 30 days each, for $28 apiece. It changes whether you actually get them.

Look up your sale

Seventeen of New Jersey's twenty-one counties publish foreclosure sales on a shared state portal. Mercer, Somerset, Sussex and Warren run their own. Either way, you can search your address without calling anyone or giving your name.

One warning if you go looking yourself: the shared portal lists a Sussex County that is in Delaware, not New Jersey. Sussex County NJ sales are only on the Sussex County Sheriff's own site, linked below.

Counties I cover in depth

I work across New Jersey, and I'm based in Fort Lee. These ten counties have full guides — sale day and time, exact location, adjournment procedures, important deadlines, and who to call:

Hudson County →
Passaic County →
Essex County →
Union County →
Morris County →
Middlesex County →
Monmouth County →

If your county isn't on that list, call me anyway. The state law is the same everywhere, and I can find out your county's specifics faster than you can.

No sale date yet?

Then you're in a much stronger position than this page assumes, and there's a different page for you. Before a sheriff's sale is scheduled, almost every option is still open — catching up, modifying the loan, or selling on your own timeline with your equity intact.
